Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) — Overview
Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) is the primary international airport serving northern Morocco. Located approximately 15 km southwest of Tangier city centre, it handles flights from major European carriers including Ryanair, easyJet, Royal Air Maroc, Air Arabia, Transavia, and TUI Airways.
The airport has one terminal building with ATMs, currency exchange, a cafe, car rental desks, and a small duty-free shop. WiFi is available throughout the terminal.
Airlines Flying into Tangier
TNG is served by a mix of Moroccan flag-carrier and European low-cost traffic, which is why arrival days feel so international:
- Royal Air Maroc — Casablanca connections and European routes
- Ryanair & easyJet — the workhorses of the UK, Spain, France and Belgium routes
- Transavia & TUI Airways — seasonal French, Dutch and UK holiday flights
- Air Arabia — budget routes via Casablanca and beyond
Schedules shift by season — check your airline for current frequency.
Getting from Tangier Airport to the City Centre
There are three ways to get from Tangier Airport to the city centre. Here is how they compare:
| Option | Price | Time | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private Transfer | From €22 per vehicle | 15–20 min | Families, groups, luggage, late arrivals |
| Booking-system taxi | ≈ 200 day / 250 night MAD | 15–20 min | Solo travellers, light luggage |
| ALSA bus "AE" | 40 MAD per person | 40–50 min | Backpackers arriving by day |
Private Transfer (Recommended)
The zero-stress option.
Cost: From €22 per vehicle
Time: 15-20 minutes
Best for: Everyone — especially families, groups, or anyone with luggage
Your driver meets you inside arrivals with a name board, monitors your flight for delays, and drives you directly to your hotel or riad. Includes free waiting time for flight delays. Book your airport transfer →
Airport Taxis (petit and grand)
The official system fare.
Cost: about 200 MAD day / 250 MAD night to the centre (≈ €19–24), set by the airport booking system
Time: 15-20 minutes
Best for: Solo travellers and couples with light luggage
Blue petit taxis are allowed to pick up at the terminal and charge by meter, starting from 7 MAD. Most arriving passengers use the airport's official grand taxi booking system instead: you enter your destination at the counter inside the terminal, the system calculates the fare by distance and prints a ticket, then you board the first grand taxi in line outside. The printed price is what you pay. The city centre lands in the 200-band, so expect about 200 MAD by day and 250 MAD at night, always per vehicle. Grand taxis seat up to 6 passengers.
Airport Bus (ALSA express)
The budget pick.
Cost: 40 MAD per person, cash on board
Time: 40-50 minutes
Best for: Solo travellers with minimal luggage arriving by day
An ALSA airport express bus (route display "AE") runs roughly hourly between the airport and Tangier's main railway station. Pay cash on board. This is the cheapest option but impractical with luggage or after dark — and guides citing an old 6 MAD "line 2B" to Place de France are out of date.
