A taxi from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG) into central Tangier costs about 200 MAD (≈ €19) by day and 250 MAD (≈ €23) at night per vehicle, set by the airport's official booking system, and the ride takes 15–20 minutes. A pre-booked private transfer costs from €22 per vehicle, and an airport bus runs roughly hourly for 40 MAD per person. Here is every option compared, with prices, times and arrival-day tips.

2. Airport Taxi — the Booking System Fare
Since early 2026, TNG runs an official taxi booking system inside the terminal. You enter your destination at the counter, the system calculates the fare from the distance in kilometres and prints a ticket. You then board the first grand taxi in line outside and pay the printed price — no haggling involved. The city centre sits in the 200-band, so expect about 200 MAD during the day and roughly 250 MAD after dark (a 25% night surcharge), always per vehicle.
Grand taxis seat up to 6 passengers. Blue petit taxis are also allowed to collect passengers at the terminal and charge by meter from 7 MAD, though with luggage most travellers stick to the booking-system grand taxi or pre-book. Pay in dirham cash either way; drivers rarely accept euros or cards.
If you are staying inside the Medina, remember that no car can reach your riad's door — the taxi stops at the nearest gate (Grand Socco, Bab Haha, Bab El Assa, among others), and you walk the final stretch or hire a porter with a handcart (krossa).
3. Airport Bus — 40 MAD, Hourly
An ALSA airport express bus (the route display shows "AE") links the airport with Tangier's main railway station roughly once per hour. The stop is just outside the terminal, towards the taxi stand side. The fare is 40 MAD per person, paid in cash on board. Older guides still citing a "line 2B" for 6 MAD to Place de France are out of date.
The bus makes sense for solo travellers with a backpack arriving during the day whose accommodation is near the railway station. With large luggage, after dark, or anywhere in the Medina, it quickly loses its appeal — you will still need a taxi for the last leg.
Arriving at TNG Step by Step
The airport is small and modern with everything on one level, so arrival day is simple if you know the order of things:
- Passport control. EU and most Western passports get a stamp on arrival; fill in the landing card handed out on the plane. Lines move quickly outside peak summer evenings
- Baggage hall and arrivals. One carousel area serves most flights. Free trolleys are available
- Cash and connectivity. ATMs, currency-exchange counters and SIM kiosks (Maroc Telecom and other operators) are all in the arrivals hall before you exit. Withdraw or exchange some dirhams here — taxis and the bus are cash-based
- Your transfer meeting point. Pre-booked drivers wait inside the arrivals hall holding a name board. Walk out of baggage reclaim and scan the greeting line; your confirmation message names the exact spot
- The taxi counter. Taking a taxi instead? Use the official booking desk, give your destination, pay for (or show) the printed distance-based ticket, then board the first grand taxi at the rank outside
- The bus stop. The ALSA express stop sits just outside the terminal toward the taxi-row side. Cash on board
Landing Late at Night
Tangier Airport handles night arrivals without drama. The booking-system taxi desk stays open with flights, the rank is staffed, and the night fare (about 250 MAD to the centre) is printed on the same ticket system as by day. What changes after dark: the airport bus stops being practical (hourly service winds down through the evening), and you should skip anyone offering rides inside the terminal rather than at the official counter. A pre-booked transfer removes the queue entirely — your driver tracks the flight, so a delayed landing at 1 AM still means someone waiting inside with your name board.
Which Option Should You Choose?
Travelling as a couple, family or group? The private transfer wins on pure value: €22 split between two people is €11 each — less than the booking-system taxi fare — with door-to-door service and zero arrival-day friction.
Solo with light luggage? The booking-system grand taxi is a fair deal at about 200 MAD, especially if your hotel is close to where cars can stop.
Backpacker on a budget, landing in daylight? The AE bus gets you to the railway station area for 40 MAD.
Landing after 10 PM, carrying big suitcases, or staying inside the Medina walls? Book the transfer — the small premium over the airport booking-system taxi buys you a met arrival, flight tracking, and a driver who handles the Medina handoff properly.
Tangier Arrival Tips
- Have some cash in dirhams for taxis or the bus. ATMs sit in the arrivals hall before you exit
- No car reaches a Medina riad directly; every option ends at a gate, so allow for a short walk or arrange porter help
- Most riads have no parking — this is normal, and your transfer driver will know the nearest drop point
- Booking a transfer? Send your flight number via WhatsApp so pickup tracks your actual landing time
- Arriving late at night is fine by taxi or transfer — it is the bus that stops being practical after dark
