The bus is usually cheapest for one person. An airport taxi is a practical choice if you'd rather arrange transport after landing. A private transfer is useful when you want your driver, vehicle and meeting point confirmed before you arrive.

Which option should you choose?
Travelling alone with a backpack? The airport bus is worth considering, particularly if you're staying near Tanger Ville railway station or another served stop.
For two or three people, an official grand taxi can be good value. You don't need to reserve it before flying, although you should confirm the fare and vehicle capacity before departure.
If you're travelling with children, several suitcases or a group, a private transfer may be more convenient. Your driver will already have your flight details and destination, so you won't need to arrange a ride after collecting your bags.
One thing worth checking before deciding is your hotel's location. Reaching a hotel beside a main road is different from reaching a riad inside Tangier's pedestrian Medina.

1. Official Grand Taxi from Tangier Airport
Official grand taxis are available at Tangier Airport. They're a straightforward way to reach central Tangier, especially if you haven't booked anything in advance.
How much is a taxi from Tangier Airport?
The airport authority, ONDA, publishes the following reference fares:

ONDA lists daytime as 05:30–22:30 and night-time as 22:30–05:30.
There is an important discrepancy to be aware of. A more recent airport fare-board photograph held by TransfersTangier shows distance-based pricing, including 150 MAD by day and 225 MAD at night for the 11–21 km band. The photographed board gives its night period as 22:00–06:00, which differs from ONDA’s published hours.
The published online schedule and the photographed board therefore do not agree in every detail. Check the current fare displayed at the airport and the amount calculated for your actual destination before accepting the ride.

Where do you get a taxi?
After passport control and baggage collection, follow the airport's taxi signs and look for the official fare or dispatch counter.
If the ticketed dispatch system is in operation, provide your destination and check the fare shown on your ticket. Then follow the instructions to the designated grand-taxi rank outside the terminal.
Keep the fare ticket until you reach your destination.
Is an airport taxi a good choice?
Yes, particularly if you arrive during the day, have manageable luggage and are comfortable arranging transport on arrival.
The taxi takes you directly to a road-accessible address. For accommodation deep inside the Medina, you'll still need to walk from an entrance where vehicles can stop.
A few useful tips:
- Keep your hotel address or Google Maps location on your phone.
- Carry Moroccan dirhams and confirm the accepted payment method.
- Check that the assigned taxi can accommodate your passengers and luggage.
- Confirm the fare before boarding, even if you've already seen a price online.

The airport shuttle is generally the cheapest option for a solo traveller. It connects Tangier Airport with urban stops and the Tanger Ville railway-station area.
The service has historically been known as the AE or Aerobus route. Tangier's urban bus network changed operators in December 2025, so check the current route number and timetable at the airport rather than relying on older ALSA schedules.
How much does the airport bus cost?
The widely reported fare is approximately 40 MAD per person, one way.
The journey usually takes around 40–50 minutes, depending on the route and traffic. You'll also need to account for the wait before departure and any onward travel from your stop.
For four adults, the bus would cost approximately 160 MAD in total, before any additional taxi needed to reach your hotel.
Where do you catch the bus?
The airport shuttle stop has been located outside the arrivals terminal. Follow the bus signs or ask airport staff for the current stop.
Before boarding, confirm the destination and whether the bus serves the stop you need.
The railway-station area is a useful endpoint for travellers continuing by train or staying around Malabata. However, it isn't the same as the old Medina. If your accommodation is near Grand Socco, the Kasbah or elsewhere in the old town, check the remaining journey before choosing the bus.
What about the bus timetable?
Airport buses have been reported to run approximately once an hour, but a reliable current timetable could not be confirmed for this guide.
For that reason, don't plan a tight train connection or a late-night arrival around an unverified departure time.
The bus makes most sense when your schedule is flexible, your luggage is easy to carry and you're happy to walk or take another taxi after getting off.
Local tip: If you're arriving with little luggage and heading towards Tanger Ville station, the bus can be a sensible choice. If you're staying inside the Medina, compare the total cost and time, not just the 40 MAD ticket.
3. Pre-Booked Private Transfer from Tangier Airport
A private transfer is arranged before your flight. You provide your arrival details, destination, number of passengers and luggage requirements, and your pickup is confirmed in advance.

A private transfer isn't the cheapest way to reach every destination. If you're travelling alone with one small bag, the bus or an official taxi may be perfectly suitable.

4. Getting to the Medina, City Centre or Malabata
The address you enter matters just as much as the transport you choose.
Tangier Medina and Kasbah
Many of the old Medina's streets are pedestrian-only or too narrow for cars.
A driver may be able to drop you near Grand Socco, Bab el-Fahs or one of the Kasbah entrances, depending on where your riad is located.
Before travelling, send your accommodation's exact name and location. If possible, ask your host which entrance is easiest when arriving with luggage.
Don't assume that a taxi or private car can stop directly outside your riad.
City centre and Ville Nouvelle
Hotels around Boulevard Pasteur, Place de France and other central roads are generally more accessible by car.
An official taxi or private transfer can usually take you closer to your accommodation, subject to local traffic restrictions.
Malabata and Tanger Ville Station
Malabata lies along Tangier Bay, east of the old city centre. The railway station is in this part of Tangier.
If you're staying near the station, the airport bus may be useful. Otherwise, a direct car journey avoids having to arrange another ride after reaching the bus stop.
5. What to Do After Landing at Tangier Airport
Whether you're taking a bus, taxi or private transfer, a little preparation makes the arrival easier.
Before your flight: Save your hotel's full address and location. Don't rely only on its name, particularly if you're staying in a small riad.
After landing: Allow time for passport control and baggage collection. The 15–30-minute road journey into central Tangier does not include these steps.
Before leaving the terminal: Check your transport instructions. For a private transfer, look for your name sign. For a grand taxi, confirm the applicable fare. For the bus, check the current stop and next departure.

If you're staying in the Medina: Keep your riad's contact number and ask about the final walk. Even with a direct car transfer, the last part of the journey may be on foot.

If you're on your own and travelling light, start by checking the airport bus. For a straightforward journey into central Tangier, an official grand taxi is also worth considering.
